Solvent-polarity dependence of ultrafast excited-state dynamics of trans-4-nitrostilbene

trans-4-Nitrostilbene S1-state deactivation dynamics is strongly modulated by solvent polarity, and its lifetime decreases by three orders of magnitude from ∼60 ps in acetonitrile to ∼60 fs in cyclohexane.
