We have developed a Rh(

iii
)-catalyzed C–H activation/chemodivergent annulation of N-carbamoylindoles with TFISYs, allowing facile access to a variety of trifluoromethyl-substituted (dihydro)pyrimidoindolones with high efficiency. Solvents play a critical role in the selectivity of the reaction.
