Modernization of Dome Automation System for the RTT150 Russian-Turkish Telescope Located at TUBITAK National Observatory

RTT150 telescope is a large 1.5-meter (m) telescope, which is located on the Bakirlitepe mountain in Antalya. This telescope uses 10.5 m diameter double-skin dome, which was made by Observa Dome in USA. The old automation system of the dome includes old, hard-to-supply electronic components and it is difficult to solve system faults due to absence of the dome automation manuals. Therefore, this study proposes a new simple dome automation control system, which has new, easy-to-supply electronic components and also fiber connections in order to prevent possible surges effects. The realized system provides simple hand use control on its RS232 serial port and plug-play feature. Effectiveness and running tests of the proposed new system has been verified through test observation results.
