In this paper, an island-like Re-containing phytate bimetal nanocluster catalyst was uniformly prepared on nickel foam by the chemical induced deposition@self-assembly method. The existence of valence-enriched Re and hydrophilic phytate molecules will improve the active area, charge transfer rate, and wetting ability of the intrinsic NiP catalyst. The bifunctional NiRe-IP6 catalyst can drive 100 mA/cm2 glucose oxidation reaction (GOR) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) processes by only 1.28 V [vs reversible hydrogen electrode (RHE)] and −0.115 V (vs RHE) in alkaline glucose electrolyte, respectively, outperforming almost all the as-reported GOR/HER bifunctional catalysts, especially at high current density.
