Abstract:

Anterior uveitis is an inflammatory condition involving the iris and ciliary body and may arise secondary to autoimmune diseases, infections, trauma, or exposure to drugs. Zoledronate, a nitrogen-containing bisphosphonate widely used in osteoporosis and malignancy-related bone disease, is rarely associated with ocular inflammatory adverse effects. We report a case of a 77-year-old female with newly diagnosed multiple myeloma who developed bilateral anterior uveitis following a single infusion of zoledronate. The diagnosis was supported by clinical findings, temporal association, exclusion of other etiologies, and causality assessment. Prompt withdrawal of the drug and initiation of topical corticosteroid therapy led to complete recovery. This case highlights the importance of early recognition of rare ocular adverse drug reactions associated with bisphosphonates.
