Watershed Non-point Source Pollution Control Based on SWAT Model: Impacts on Residents’ Ecological Emotion and Mental Health

Abstract

Objective

Severe watershed non-point source pollution destroys regional ecological environment, produces long-term ecological psychological pressure on surrounding residents, triggers negative ecological emotions and imbalanced mental states, and impairs residents’ overall mental health. This paper adopts SWAT model to simulate different pollution control scenarios, and explores residents’ ecological emotional response mechanism to pollution governance effects, so as to ease ecological psychological pressure and improve public mental health level.

Subjects and Methods

Taking a typical inland watershed as the research area, this study applies SWAT hydrological model to simulate the pollution reduction effects of different control measures. Combined with field questionnaires and correlation analysis, it investigates residents’ ecological psychological pressure, real-time mental states and mental health changes under varied pollution levels, and clarifies the dynamic response rules of public psychology to ecological governance.

Results

Effective non-point source pollution control significantly reduces watershed environmental risks, relieves residents’ persistent ecological psychological pressure, alleviates negative emotional states caused by environmental anxiety, and presents a prominent promoting effect on residents’ mental health. Different control intensities show obvious differentiated impacts on public mental states and emotional feedback.

Conclusions

Watershed pollution governance effect has a direct driving effect on residents’ ecological psychology. Scientifically optimized pollution control schemes can steadily reduce public ecological psychological pressure, repair negative mental states induced by environmental pollution, protect residents’ mental health, and realize coordinated development of watershed ecological management and public psychological well-being.
