Dr. Sushma HR, Dr. Ramesha

Abstract

The digital transformation of academic libraries has changed how information services are delivered, particularly through web and mobile platforms. A purposive sampling method was used to select 30 university libraries based on the availability of web-based library and information resources and services, which were selected based on the content analysis of the library websites. This study uses a descriptive survey research design to examines the availability, accessibility, and effectiveness of web and mobile-enabled library and information services in state and private university libraries in Karnataka, India. The research focuses on six primary service areas: reference, acquisition, circulation, cataloguing, research support, and other digital resources and evaluates the extent of digital technology integration in these services. The findings reveal that basic services, such as email/SMS alerts (80 %), OPAC systems (93.3 %), and plagiarism detection tools (90 %), are widely implemented. However more advanced services, including mobile apps (50 %), real-time chat services (30 %), and QR code integration (43.3 %), are not commonly adopted. Most of the available services are accessible through both web and mobile platforms. This indicates a shift toward user-friendly and inclusive service delivery. The study also identifies key challenges, including a shortage of technical staff, inadequate infrastructure, and a lack of awareness among users. Based on these findings, the paper recommends investing in mobile technologies, enhancing staff training, and improving integration with academic platforms to support effective learning. These steps could help create a stronger and more equitable digital library system. The results provide valuable insights for library professionals, policymakers, and educational institutions aiming to modernize and enhance library services in the digital era.
