Using Popular Culture to Address Dating and Domestic Violence

Abstract

Chapter 7 presents examples of popular fiction books, films, TV shows, and music that address dating and domestic violence. It also includes examples that can be used with younger children to teach acceptance, kindness, and prevent bullying. While not an exhaustive list, the examples included herein have been used by educators in many disciplinary areas to teach about the scope and extent of abuse, the forms of abuse, the dynamics of abusive relationships, barriers to leaving, and the inadequacy of available resources.
