Abstract

Between 1753 and 1771, Carl Linnaeus described and named 30 species of passionflowers ( Passiflora , Passifloraceae). As was customary at the time, he did not explicitly cite herbarium specimens that could serve as types for these species. Beginning in 1926 through 2024, 18 of the 30 Linnaean species names were typified and 2 were found to be illegitimate. Here, for the remaining 10, we designate lectotypes for Passiflora cupraea , P. holosericea , P. maliformis , P. multiflora , P. murucuja , P. pedata , P. perfoliata , P. serratifolia and P. tiliifolia and a neotype for P. divaricata . Additionally, two epitypes are also designated for P. perfoliata and P. tiliifolia .
