Tracheal extramedullary plasmacytoma in a domestic shorthair cat: Surgical management by tracheal resection and anastomosis

Luna Berlemont, Mathieu Taroni

Abstract

A 10‐year‐old, spayed, female domestic shorthair cat was referred for acute inspiratory dyspnoea and stridor. Diagnostic tests, including endoscopy, computed tomography and cytology, showed a circumferential tracheal mass within the mid‐cervical trachea, compatible with an extramedullary plasmacytoma. The cat underwent tracheal resection (21% of the total length) and end‐to‐end anastomosis without perioperative complications. Postoperative recovery was uneventful, and the cat was discharged 3 days after surgery. At the 12‐month postoperative follow‐up, no recurrence of clinical signs was observed. The histopathological analysis revealed a plasmacytoma with no infiltration of the surgical margins. This case highlights the feasibility and outcome of surgical management of rare tracheal neoplasms in cats.
