Background

Screw-retained restorations in the esthetic zone may present biomechanical challenges when dynamic abutments with different angulations are used, as torque deviation and screw loosening can affect clinical performance.

Purpose

To evaluate tightening torque deviation and screw loosening for different angles of dynamic abutments used with narrow implants in the esthetic zone.

Patients and methods

Twenty epoxy resin blocks were assigned to two groups ( n =10). Group A received implants with 10° angled screw channel (dynamic) abutments, and group B received 25° Angled screw channel abutments. Zirconia crowns were fabricated and cemented to all implants. Initial reverse torque values were measured using a digital torque gauge. All samples underwent 150 000 loading cycles in a chewing simulator, followed by re-measurement of reverse torque values to assess screw loosening and torque deviation. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 26, and Student’s t -test was used for group comparison.

Results

Both groups demonstrated removal torque loss before and after cyclic loading. No significant difference was found between 10 and 25° abutments regarding screw loosening ( P >0.05). However, dynamic abutments with hexalobular screws showed significant deviation from the manufacturer’s recommended torque ( P <0.05).

Conclusion

Within the limitations of this in-vitro study, both dynamic abutment angulations demonstrated similar removal torque loss with no increased risk of screw loosening. Significant torque deviation was associated with the hexalobular screw system.
