Tools: SWOT in International Business Revisited
Marilyn M. HelmsThe use of Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis permeates the academic literature as an ever-popular tool for strategic planning. The tool is used by business students, consultants, practitioners, and academicians. Reviewing academic research from the last decade (See Helms and Nixon, 201) included in the ABInform Global database, 67 of the 141 articles that emerged used SWOT in an international environment. The international research included individual studies, industry studies, and country studies. The SWOT technique is recommended for IB faculty and is also a way to engage managers and employers in profiling international organizations and their macro-environments.
