To Pay or Not to Pay: That is the Economic Development Question

Betty-Jane Punnett

This article is a continuation of many articles about what is ethical and what is not, and how one judges this question. The questions raised are if it is an absolute question derides of a social and economic context, or if it is a question that has to be answered in a broader cost-benefit context. Furthermore, the question of what the best way is to avoid misallocation of resources as a result of corruption is raised and discussed. It is argued that corruption creates waste and therefore is bad for the economy. The best way to avoid corruption is transparency.
