Thermochromic behavior of aromatic polyester films blended with aromatic polyacetylene
Chiharu Takahashi, Haruki Ikushima, Yasuharu Kanda, Yasuteru MawatariAbstract
A blend film was created by solvent casting using aromatic polyacetylene as a thermochromic component and a fully aromatic polyester with high heat resistance. The film exhibited a two-stage irreversible color change from orange to yellow and subsequently to yellowish-brown at 240 and 270 °C, respectively. The initial transition was associated with a decrease in cis-cisoid persistence, while the second resulted from low-molecular-weight polyenes formed by the polyacetylene backbone cleavage.
