This chapter addresses that gap through a thematic, cross-national analysis of older workers’ engagement with digitalisation in four European contexts: the Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, and Ukraine. Drawing on policy documents, national reports, and recent empirical research, the chapter identifies shared patterns and country-specific divergences in how older employees experience digital transformation. Rather than presenting four parallel country case studies, the analysis is structured around key themes: digital capability building, workplace support, and policy alignment. These dimensions are synthesised into a conceptual framework – the Three Pillars of Inclusive AI Integration – that allows for analytical comparison and theory building.

The four countries represent diverse yet complementary policy environments. Germany serves as a benchmark with its extensive ageing and digital inclusion strategies. The Czech Republic and Poland, as post-socialist EU members, offer insights into transitional institutional settings facing both demographic and technological pressures. Ukraine, a non-EU country undergoing conflict-driven transformation, provides a contrasting case that foregrounds resilience and structural gaps. Together, these contexts illuminate how ageing and AI adaptation intersect under different socio-political and economic conditions.
