The Short-Term Fertility Impact of Abortion Law Restrictions: A Research Note

Poland's 2020 abortion ruling led to a sharp 6% drop in births 37 weeks later. The decline exceeded the number of legal abortions previously performed. The decline was strongest among younger and childless women. Abortion bans may reduce fertility when they heighten risks of childbearing.
