The Role of Risk Management in Ensuring the Safety of Logistics Processes – Selected Aspects

Tomasz Szczepanik

Abstract

Modern enterprises operate in conditions of increasing uncertainty and environmental volatility, necessitating effective risk management in logistics processes. The aim of this article is to examine the role of risk management in ensuring the security and continuity of logistics processes and to identify selected risk factors affecting supply, production, warehousing and transport operations. The study combines a theoretical analysis of risk management with an empirical case study of a company operating in the extraction and processing of mineral resources. The empirical analysis covers operational data from 2024 and 2025 and examines monthly changes in production-related transport activity, including the utilization of cement and silo semi-trailers. Selected indicators of transport dynamics and seasonal variation were used to assess changes in logistics performance and the impact of a production line failure on transport activity. The results demonstrate that the production disruption caused a substantial temporary decrease in transport orders, particularly in March 2025, followed by a gradual recovery of transport activity. The analysis also identified recurring seasonal fluctuations in the utilization of silo-type trailers. The findings indicate that effective risk management, supported by operational data monitoring and appropriate organizational responses, can contribute to maintaining supply continuity and improving the stability and resilience of logistics processes.
