Arsim Avdiu, Teuta Agaj Avdiu

Preschool education represents a crucial stage in children’s early development, as it plays an important role in shaping the cognitive, linguistic, social, and emotional skills required for a successful transition to primary school. This study aims to examine primary school teachers’ perceptions of the influence of preschool institutions on preparing children for the first grade. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire administered to 100 teachers in the municipality of Gjilan. The findings reveal clear differences between children who attended preschool and those who did not. Children with preschool experience demonstrate stronger prior knowledge, more developed language and social skills, and higher levels of emotional and intellectual maturity. In contrast, children without preschool experience face greater difficulties in socialization, lack essential foundational knowledge, and encounter challenges in adapting to the school environment. Teachers also report that preschool education helps balance skill levels within the classroom and supports a more effective transition to primary school. Overall, the results confirm that participation in preschool education provides significant advantages for children’s development and school readiness, highlighting preschool as a critical foundation for future academic and social success.
