The Role of Pentraxin-3/Inducing B Regulatory Cells against Cardiac Tissue Damage in Ischemic Heart Disease as an Indirect Pathway for B Regulatory Cells in Immunosuppression

Background:
Several mechanisms of immune suppression have received a great deal of attention in the past decades especially the suppressive mechanisms by regulatory B cells (BREG).
Objectives:
In this study, we highlight the role of pentraxin-3 (PTX3)/inducing BREG cells in ischemic heart disease tissue damage for Iraqi patients.
Materials and Methods:
Atheroma tissue samples were collected from 38 patients with chronic ischemic heart disease (CIHD) for the detection of PTX3 by immunohistochemistry (IHC), and then, interleukin 10 (IL-10)-secreting-regulatory B cells were detected by using double staining immunohistochemistry with both cluster of differentiation 19 (CD19) and IL-10 monoclonal antibodies.
Results:
It displayed a low predominance of both CD19-B cells and BREG cells. PTX3 showed high positive expression which was recorded by patients of the chronic high-risk group than patients of other study groups. Also, it was found that both BREG cells and PTX3 mean percentage exhibited high frequencies correlated with a low degree of histopathological abnormalities in most groups under study.
Conclusion:
PTX3/inducing BREG cells play an important role in ischemic heart disease in the suppression of histopathological abnormalities formation; therefore, further studies must be done for how to manipulate these cells in the presence of PTX3 to inhibit the inflammatory process in ischemic heart disease.
