The Role of Medical Laboratories in Public Health Surveillance

Abstract

Medical laboratories play a critical role in public health surveillance by providing accurate and timely data for detecting, monitoring and responding to public health threats. This short communication highlights the importance of medical laboratories in disease detection, outbreak management and the continuous monitoring of endemic and emerging health threats. It also discusses the challenges laboratories face in this role and suggests strategies for enhancing their contribution to public health surveillance.
