The Role of HOXA-10 Gene in Prediction of Positive Pregnancy Outcome Women Undergoing Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection

Abstract

Background:

Infertility is when a male or female cannot conceive due to a problem with the reproductive system or it could be unexplained infertility. There are two types of infertility: primary and secondary. When a person is completely unable to conceive, it is primary infertility. Someone who has previously conceived but is no longer able to do so with secondary infertility, and the causes could be, they can be grouped into male factor, female factors, mixed factors, and unexplained infertility. Recent experimental studies have shown that gene polymorphisms in HOXA-10 genes can be linked to endometrial development and successful implantation.

Objective:

The aim of the current study was to assess the association of HOXA-10 gene polymorphism with implantation success for women undergo intracytoplasmic sperm injection.

Materials and Methods:

The one hundred fifty infertile women who had intracytoplasmic sperm injection were all included in the current study. Blood samples were collected from study participants. Age, body mass index (BMI), infertility type, length, number of previous in vitro fertilization (IVF) cycles, hormone levels in serum, oocyte and embryo features, and endometrial thickness were all evaluated clinically. Gene polymorphism study and DNA sequence analysis of HOXA-10 genes were carried out.

Result:

Regarding gene HOXA-10, there was significant difference in 133G>AGA2 Tins between positive and negative pregnancy ( P < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference in 76A>G, 97C>A, 121C>A, 152G>A, 238G>T, 314A>T, 421C>T, 622C>T between groups ( P > 0.05).

Conclusion:

Gene polymorphism of HOXA-10 can affect on endometrial tissue leading to effect on endometrial receptivity. Moreover, variation in endometrial tissue level affects implantation.
