The role of African women in Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS)
Lungile CindiIn this article attention is drawn to African women and Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS). It explores the relationship between the two, particularly the role of women in IKS and how women use IKS in their everyday lives. The entry shows that African
women have been custodians as well as play a role in conserving and passing down IKS. African women have used IKS not only to sustain their families but communities at large. Their role in IKS has not only been confined to Agriculture as it is widely known but other areas such as the Arts and Medicine, to name a few. Of importance, is how IKS and the role of African women in it has relevant to African Feminist Theory and practice.
