The potential of digital technologies for the bioeconomy development of the northern region

The interpretation of the bioeconomy emphasises its holistic nature, based on the integration of raw material, technological, ecological, and socio-biodiversity concepts, which is efficient for the bioeconomy research and development of northern resource regions. The Russian Federation implements the development of a technological approach to the bioeconomy. In global digital development, the implementation of the “Path to the Digital Decade” in Europe and the global digitalisation and intelligence index developed by Chinese experts have been highlighted. In Russia, strategies and programs for the digital transformation of industries and regions, as well as national projects, regulate the development of digitalisation. Rosstat (the Federal State Statistics Service) has approved the methodology for compiling official information on technology statistics. The author has first conducted a comprehensive statistical assessment of the digital potential of the Komi Republic’s bioeconomy based on available data. The article highlights range of technologies used by organisations and level of their application in specific activities; leading and lagging activities and technologies. The author emphasises and explains the role of digital connectivity in the development of the republic’s digital bioeconomy.
