The Nursing Workforce Crisis: Strategies for Academia and Health Care Organizations

The nursing workforce is facing upcoming challenges. As North Carolina’s population ages, there is an increasing demand for nursing care, with acute care and long-term care among the areas that will be hardest hit due to the aging and ailing of our population. This commentary describes challenges faced by the nursing workforce and discusses strategies that can be used by academia and health care organizations to prepare our nursing workforce for the future.
