The most brilliant “Failure” in science – The Michelson-Morley experiment

Biju Raju, N. S. D. Raju, R. Jyothi

ABSTRACT

The Michelson–Morley experiment yielded a null result and was initially regarded as a failure by its investigators, Albert Michelson and Edward Morley. Yet this unexpected outcome provided a crucial foundation for Albert Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity. The Michelson interferometer developed for the experiment subsequently became the basis for numerous technological innovations, including optical coherence tomography (OCT).
