The Influence of the Battlespace in Modern Military Conflict on the Security of States

Nicolae Chimerciuc, Fiodor Timercan

Abstract

This article examines the impact of the evolving nature of the modern battlespace on state security, highlighting a shift that goes beyond tactical adaptation to a broader technological transformation. Since the beginning of the 21st century, armed conflicts have undergone significant changes, becoming more complex and multidimensional. By 2026, the battlespace has expanded from a purely physical domain to an integrated environment that includes cyberspace, the information sphere, and the space domain. Modern warfare is increasingly characterized by automation, transparency, and the extensive use of advanced technologies. Unmanned aerial vehicles play a critical role in reconnaissance, surveillance, and precision strikes, enabling real-time situational awareness without direct human presence. At the same time, artificial intelligence, networked communications systems, and cyber operations are reshaping the structure and dynamics of military engagements. Particular attention is paid to how the immediate proximity of a conflict zone affects political stability, economic security, migration processes and military strategy of states. The study notes that modern war zones are becoming a factor in destabilizing the international security system, affecting not only the countries involved in the conflict, but also neighboring states.
