The article is devoted to the study of the problem of moral traumatization of extreme volunteers, assessing the nature of the influence of the components of personal choice of participation in a special military operation on the manifestation of moral trauma in combatants. The methodological basis of the research is represented by the subject-activity and subject-participatory approaches. The subject of the study is the personal choice of participation in extreme volunteerism as a protector of generalization of moral trauma in combatants. The aim is to assess the impact of personal choice of participation in extreme volunteerism on the manifestation of moral trauma in participants of a special military operation. Psychological testing was applied using a questionnaire to study personal choice, participation in extreme volunteerism, and a methodology for measuring the severity of moral trauma. Sample: 83 extreme volunteers. Mathematical data processing was based on the use of methods for estimating differences in indicators in groups, correlation and regression analyses. The results of the study showed that moral trauma in extreme volunteers mainly manifests itself in the form of a crisis of beliefs and a conflict of perception. «Idealism», «Extreme perceptual congruence», «Emotional rigidity», «Self-control», «Extreme vitality», «Critical thinking» as components of a personal choice to participate in a special military operation have a protective effect on the generalization of manifestations of moral trauma. The integrity of the worldview and the value system formed by the subject when confronted with situations of moral trauma causes additional mental stress in the personality, transformation of ideals, meanings of existence and moral and ethical principles. Models for assessing the manifestations of moral trauma in combatants are proposed. The results allow us to clarify a new area of psychological support, support and assistance to extreme volunteers, namely, overcoming the moral trauma of combat participants.
