Objectives

The research aimed to evaluate the effect of dentin pretreatment with hyaluronic acid (HA) or HA with nanohydroxyapatite (nHAp) on microleakage score and micromorphology interface of resin composite restoration with scanning electron microscope (SEM).

Material and methods

Thirty extracted human premolar teeth were randomly assigned to three groups: group I (control, untreated demineralized dentin), group II (HA pretreated dentin), and group III ( HA + nHAp pretreated dentin). Class V cavity was completed, demineralizing solution was administered, and the cavity was cleaned and dried. Each group was treated. Adhesive and composite repair was applied, and a microleakage test was conducted. SEM was generated.

Results

HA + nHAp has the lowest microleakage compared to all the groups; however, there was no significant difference between untreated dentin and HA. SEM observed HA + nHAp had thick hybrid integration and longer dentin resin.

Conclusion

The combination of HA and nHAp decrease microleakage.

Clinical relevance : HA and nHAp may be a remineralizing dentin pretreatment that can increase the durability of bond strength.
