The implementation of the right of convicts, suspects, and accused persons to the protection of personal data in the penal system of the Russian Federation

The author conducts a theoretical analysis of the information and legal component of the functioning of the penal system of the Russian Federation, using the protection of confidential information containing personal data of persons convicted of committing crimes, as well as suspects and accused persons of committing crimes, as an example. Special attention is paid to the text of Order No. 417 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia dated June 23, 2020, “On the Processing of Personal Data in the Penal System of the Russian Federation.” The author has formulated proposals for improving the regulatory framework of the Russian penal system in terms of regulating the mechanisms for protecting the personal data of persons convicted of crimes, as well as suspects and persons accused of committing crimes.
