The Impact of Employment Barriers on Career Choice among Marriage Immigrant Women

Ye-Eun Jeong, Won-Ji Jung

This study examined the impact of employment barriers on career choice among marriage immigrant women. An online survey was conducted with 234 marriage immigrant women using questionnaires translated into five languages.. The findings identified four employment barrier factors family care burden, cultural background, adaptability, and information access. Among these, family care burden showed a significant positive effect on career choice. This suggests that caregiving responsibilities not only restrict employment opportunities but also motivate economic participation due to livelihood and child-rearing responsibilities. Based on these findings, the study highlights the need for expanded public caregiving support, customized vocational training, and multicultural awareness policies. This study is significant in that it empirically verified the relationship between employment barriers and career choice and provides foundational data for the development of multicultural employment policies.
