The impact of digital supply chain integration on sustainable export performance: the role of sustainable supply chain resilience and supply chain transparency

Sustainability and resilience have become critical requirements for maintaining competitiveness in international markets. Yet export-oriented firms still struggle to meet these requirements effectively. While digitally enabled supply chains can potentially help firms in this regard, it remains unclear whether, how and when digital supply chains can contribute to sustainable supply chain resilience (SSCR) and sustainable export performance. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of digital supply chain integration (DSCI) on sustainable export performance and the mediating role of SSCR and the moderating role of supply chain transparency.
Design/methodology/approach
The study employs the partial least squares-structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) technique to analyse 242 survey responses obtained from manufacturing firms across different sectors in Jordan.
Findings
The analysis indicates that DSCI positively influences sustainable export performance both directly and indirectly by enhancing SSCR. However, the analysis reveals that supply chain transparency does not moderate the impact of DSCI on SSCR, suggesting that DSCI drives SSCR regardless of the level of supply chain transparency.
Originality/value
This study examines the impact of DSCI on sustainable export performance and its underlying mechanism and boundary condition. This enriches the theoretical understanding of whether, how and when DSCI can contribute to sustainable export performance and offers valuable insights for managers aiming to improve sustainable performance in international markets.
