The Impact of Climate Change on Traditional Agriculture in AL Jabal AL Akhdar Using Geomatics Techniques (1980–2023)

The study integrates quantitative climate data analysis, spatial analysis through geomatics techniques: remote sensing (RS) and geographic information systems (GIS), and qualitative insights from field interviews. The area is known for its reliance on terraced farming and the falaj irrigation system, both facing increasing pressures from rising temperatures, variable rainfall, and recurrent droughts. Data from meteorological stations were combined with NDVI analysis of multi-temporal satellite imagery to assess vegetation cover changes. Results show a clear warming trend, rainfall fluctuations, reduced agricultural areas, and stress on water resources. Socio-economic impacts include a decline in agriculture as a primary source of income and rural-to-urban migration. Adaptations include modern irrigation methods, organic farming, and agro-tourism. Recommendations are provided to strengthen local climate monitoring, develop adaptation strategies, and preserve resilient traditional practices.
