The image of the House-Ark in contemporary easel painting: archetypes of space and time in the work of Titova E. A. "The Thread of Time. Family Charms."

Elena Aleksandrovna Titova

The object of the research is the monumental canvas by Titova E.A., a recognized figure in the arts of the Republic of Tatarstan, a member of the Union of Artists of Russia, "Thread of Time. Family Amulets" (2024), as a holistic artistic work. The plot of the painting is personal, but its figurative component is symbolic for the viewer's understanding. The canvas of easel painting metaphorically represents a composite image of the House-Ark. The artist focuses on the traditions of the lineage and the continuity of ancestral culture. The subject of the research is the totality of archetypal structures of space and time in the easel painting by Titova E.A. "Thread of Time. Family Amulets," as well as the totality of systems of cultural codes fixed in the subject range and material basis of the artistic work. The aim of the work is to identify the set of archetypal features and cultural codes of the image of the House-Ark in the metaphorical work of Titova E.A. and to analyze them. The methodology is an interdisciplinary approach that combines structural-semiotic methods, phenomenology of space, iconographic analysis, theory of archetypes, and historical-cultural methods, allowing for viewing the work as a holistic mythopoetic model of the image of the House-Ark, with inherent archetypes of space and time. The author's special contribution is in the study of lineage traditions and the continuity of ancestral culture. The novelty of the research lies in the fact that the work becomes the subject of art study analysis for the first time; a connection between compositional structure and iconographic schemes of ancient Russian painting is revealed; the role of the artifact as a structural-forming element is uncovered; a symbolic interpretation of the work as a "family icon-cosmos" is proposed. A detailed artistic-compositional analysis of the metaphorical composition has been conducted. Archetypal features and cultural codes of the image of the canvas as the House-Ark have been identified. An appeal to opponents has been made, parallels on the topic in Russian and foreign art have been considered, and conclusions based on the research have been presented. The results of the research are necessary for a deep understanding of the work of art. The analysis of archetypal features of the studied image has broad implications for understanding the figurative component of metaphorical painting works. The main conclusions of the conducted research are as follows: Titova E.A.'s work "Thread of Time. Family Amulets" represents an example of modern easel painting, a visual model of the transmission of ancestral experience, synthesizing iconographic tradition, folk culture, and avant-garde aesthetics, while embodying the image-symbol of the House-Ark with archetypes of space and time.
