The Human Centric and Sustainable Fusion of Biological, Digital, and Cognitive Domains in Industry 6.0

Shashi Kant, V.K. Sharma, Anuj Dixit

Abstract

From machine operations (Industry 1.0) to mass production (2.0), automation (3.0), and cyber-physical systems (4.0), industrial frameworks have rapidly evolved. A community-centric, resilient, and adaptive model (Industry 5.0) has just emerged. By cultivating collaborative integration of the human, biological, digital, and cognitive spheres, this chapter emphasizes and claims to investigate the nascent concept of Industry 6.0, a conceptual roadmap that exceeds the limits of its predecessors. In contrast to Industry 4.0, Industry 6.0 is built as a dynamic ecosystem in which technology becomes an effortless, smart support for how people and nature think, built to save time with automation and data, and Industry 5.0, which puts creative thinking back into the process. This chapter shows the key points of Industry 6.0, which includes deep partnership between humans and machines where both sides enhance each other’s abilities, like the culture of human machine, blending of biological systems with digital tools and explainable and emotionally aware artificial intelligence (XAI and EAI), Decentralized and Swarm Organizing Principles, Absolute Sustainability, and Circular Ecosystems. The key enabling technologies like Brain Computer Interfaces (BCIs), Digital Twins of biological systems, and Quantum Computing will underpin this transition, and we analyze it. Including data privacy, technological equity, and the redefinition of labor, this chapter also critically examines the significant socio-ethical, economic, and technical challenges. Finally, as per our proposal, a research agenda existed to guide the responsible development.
