The Evolution of Digital Transformation Research in India: A Bibliometric and Science-Mapping Study (2015–2024)

C G Saravana

Digital transformation (DT) has become an important catalyst of innovation, economic growth, and governance reform in India since the launch of the Digital India program in 2015. This study reviews the development and intellectual landscape of DT research in India during the last decade. The study will explore research trends, significant contributors, and research themes of DT in the Indian context. Along with rapid digitalization, we have a limited understanding of how research on DT in India has progressed and which research areas require greater scholarly and policy attention. To provide insights into the scientific output, collaboration networks, and research themes of DT research in India between 2015 and 2024. A bibliometric and science-mapping analysis of 424 publications obtained from Scopus and Web of Science was conducted, using the Bibliometrix (R) and VOSviewer tools. The analysis indicated immense growth in DT publications after 2015, with IISc, IIT Delhi, and IIM Bangalore publishing a significant proportion of the articles. Four themes e-governance, fintech, Industry 4.0, and digital inclusion dominated research, and in the last few years, research has focused on AI, smart cities, and sustainability.
