The Effect of Time Care on Anxiety, Depression, and Intraocular Pressure in Patients with Primary Angle Closure Glaucoma

Weili Shen, Beibei Wang

Objective: To investigate the effects of a time-based nursing intervention on anxiety, depression, and intraocular pressure in patients with primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG). Methods: A retrospective controlled study was conducted. Medical records of 86 patients with PACG admitted to the Department of Ophthalmology at Huzhou Aier Eye Hospital between January 2023 and January 2025 were collected. Based on the perioperative nursing protocol, patients were divided into a conventional care group and a time-based care group, with 43 patients in each group. Comparisons of baseline data—including age, disease duration, preoperative intraocular pressure, and admission HADS scores—between the two groups showed no statistically significant differences (P > 0.05), indicating comparability. We compared anxiety and depression scores, intraocular pressure, and the incidence of postoperative adverse events between the two groups following the intervention. Results: After the intervention, the HADS score in the time-based care group (13.33 ± 2.17) was lower than that in the standard care group (18.41 ± 3.25) (t = 8.524, P < 0.05) ; intraocular pressure (16.11 ± 1.79) mmHg was lower than that in the conventional care group (18.51 ± 2.53) mmHg (t = 5.078, P < 0.05); the overall incidence of postoperative adverse events was 4.66%, lower than the 18.61% in the conventional care group (χ² = 4.074, P = 0.044). Conclusion: Perioperative time-based nursing effectively alleviates negative emotions such as anxiety and depression in patients with PACG, stabilizes intraocular pressure, and reduces the risk of adverse events such as postoperative elevated intraocular pressure and corneal edema. It is suitable for widespread application in ophthalmology clinical practice.
