The Effect of Nurse-Parent Support on Coping with Anxiety, and Caregiver Burden Among Parents of Hospitalized Infants: A Cross-Sectional Study

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of nurse-parent support on coping with anxiety and caregiver burden among parents of hospitalized infants.. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted in a cross-sectional. This study sample consisted of 214 parents of hospitalized infants in a comprehensive hospital in the Southern region of Turkey. Data were collected between August 2023 and March 2024 with the “Nurse-Parent Support Tool”, “State Anxiety Inventory”, and “Burden Interview Scale”. The STROBE checklist was used for reporting. Results: In this study, 38.3% of the parents were 25 years of age or younger. Parents' levels of perception of nurse-parent support were above average, their anxiety was high, and their caregiver burden was medium. Parents who were female had a low education level, and had a baby seven months or older, perceived nurse-parent support to be high, and their anxiety was lower. In addition, the perception of caregiver burden was higher for parents over the age of 31. There was a negative relationship between nurse-parent support and anxiety level, and a positive relationship between caregiver burden. A negative relationship was also determined between anxiety level and caregiver burden. Conclusion:It was determined that nurse-parent support negatively affected the anxiety level of parents and positively affected the caregiver burden.
