The effect of localized friction on the disruption of self-similarity

Asghar Noormohammadi, Ronald Barron, Ram Balachandar

The present study demonstrates the absence of self-similarity formation in the distribution of mean concentration fields. An examination in both the physical and spectral spaces revealed that the convection−diffusion mechanism and the development of short- and long-range dispersion play a minimal role in influencing the nature of self-similarity. The friction concentration is considered as the key factor in determining the emergence of self-similarity. It is observed that as the rate of change of friction concentration fields tends to zero, the mean concentration fields stabilize into self-similar patterns more effectively.
