The Effect of Forchlorfenuron on Some Biochemical Parameters in Rats and the Protective Role of Propolis

Hasan Yıldız, Hamit Yilmaz
In this study, the biochemical effects of forchlorfenuron on rat serum and the possible effects that may occur with the addition of propolis were evaluated. A total of thirty Wistar albino male rats were used in six groups. Group 1 (Cont group) was fed with standard feed and water. For Group 2 (Pr group), ethanolic extract propolis (EEP) (80 mgkg-1 bw/d) was added to drinking water. 3rd Group (F150 Group) (150 mgkg-1 bw/d) Forchlorfenuron, 4th Group (F500 group) (500 mgkg-1 bw/d) forklorfenuron, 5th Group (PrF150 group) (150 mgkg-1 bw/d) forchlorfenuron + propolis (EEP) (80 mgkg-1 bw/d) was added to drinking water. Group 6 (PrF500 group) (500 mgkg-1 bw/d) forchlorfenuron + propolis (EEP) (80 mgkg-1 bw/d) was added to drinking water and given without restriction for 30 days. At the end of the study, biochemical analyzes (AST, ALP, ALT, Trig, Chol, Crea, LDL) were performed from blood tissues taken from rats. According to the results obtained from our study; the application of F500 increased the AST, ALP, ALT, and Crea values. Chol values increased in both F150 and F500 dosages. Co-administration of forchlorfenuron and EEP kept ALP, ALT, Trig, and Crea values close to the Cont group values according to the given dosage. A reduction in LDL levels was observed with the use of propolis. According to the obtained data, the administration of EEP together with the administration of forchlorfenuron ensured that the liver enzymes, which were generally elevated, were kept at a level close to the control.
