The Down Payment Decision.

Abstract

The decision among various down payment options Is analyzed in terms of the rate of return, both before and after taxes, on the Incremental investment. This rate of return is shown to be a decreasing function of the fractional down payment. Finally, the decision criterion Is shown to be Independent of the purchase price of the property.
