The Development of a Checklist for Microlearning Video Design: A Design-Based Research Study

Abstract: A Microlearning Video Design Checklist was developed, implemented, and updated with Design-based Research (DBR) involving novice participants. This research, utilizing multi-methods with both qualitative and convergent mixed methods with three groups of participants, supports the notion that novice designers benefit from checklists. Through this three-iteration DBR study, the checklist was updated from version one to version four, resulting in 43 statements to support microlearning video design. This study expands the current research available on microlearning design by moving beyond selecting and chunking information to design considerations when developing an informal microlearning video.
