The Continued Growth in the Number of Workers Potentially Exposed to Silica Dust in India – A Recent Estimate

Abstract

Using the Periodic Labour Force Survey data, we estimate the number of workers potentially exposed to silica dust in India and its distribution in various industries and occupations. We also indicate the gaps in our knowledge on the risk of developing silicosis, the burden of silicosis in the population, and the role of the occupational health community in documenting and addressing this challenge.
