THE CONCEPT OF THE LINGUISTIC INTERFERENCE BASED ON THE ANALYSIS OF THE MIXED LANGUAGE SPANGLISH
Svetlana Vladimirovna YartsevaOnce having appeared in the sphere of natural sciences, the notion of interference was applied by linguistics to denote the influence of one language on another in the process of a language contact. During the contact of different language bearers their linguistic systems try to adapt to each other for reaching mutual understanding, which influences in deviations and errors on various levels of the language hierarchy. Language interference is observed from two positions: as a negative effect disturbing proper language learning, and as positive process fostering language development and creation of the new linguistic phenomena. There are different views on the interference classification. Still, majority of scientists categorize it according to the levels of the language hierarchy susceptible to interference: phonetic, semantic, lexical, grammatical, orthographic, stylistic, and sociocultural. The most representative analysis of the language interference might be observed through the investigation of the mixed languages based on the developed bilingualism of its users and taking as a basis two (or more) approximately equally interfering languages. The current study is based on the investigation of the phonetic, lexical and grammatical interference of Spanglish, which is a mixture of English and Spanish constituents. As the source of the language material the articles devoted to Spanglish as well as literary texts and song lyrics in Spanglish have been investigated. The phonetic, lexical and grammatical (compiling morphological and syntactic characteristics) levels of Spanglish have been analyzed and the common patterns have been driven. The stronger influence of one of the compiling languages on each level of the language has been inferred.
