The Analysis of Additive Manufacturing Parameters to Evaluate the Feasibility of Using Spare Parts in the Shipbuilding Industry

Tomasz Cyryl Dyl

This article discusses a modern manufacturing method: additive manufacturing technology. It outlines the development trends of production methods in the shipbuilding industry, forecasts for the coming years, and the factors driving the development and implementation of new manufacturing technologies while also considering the historical context. Furthermore, the article characterizes additive methods in line with the current literature and highlights the features and advantages of using these technologies to produce parts and components for marine machinery. The rapid development of additive manufacturing technology in recent years and its promising future have prompted certain classification societies to develop publications containing guidelines and recommendations for additive manufacturing methods, the application of which enables the certification of final products. Several case studies involving machinery components such as a ship propeller and a pressure pipe are described. Additionally, a roadmap for the Shipyard 4.0 concept is included.
