The accretion history of the Galaxy via field and globular cluster populations

Abstract

The fossilised records encoded in stellar field and globular cluster populations of the Milky Way provide the means to reconstruct the accretion history of the Galaxy. Thanks to the revolutionary data supplied by large-scale stellar surveys of the Milky Way, great strides have been made in the past two decades in unearthing the genesis of our Galaxy. We present a high-level summary of some of those works aiming at uncovering the earliest phases of mass assembly of the Milky Way.
