TERRORIST ATTACKS IN AFRICA AND THEIR DEROGATIONS ON HUMAN RIGHTS

This article is motivated by the numerous terrorists attacks witnessed across the African continent and their resultant negative impact on human rights guaranteed to the African people under the African Charter. These Terrorist attacks have resulted into numerous killings and destruction of individual properties and creation of general insecurity and inhibition on fundamental rights of the people such as freedom of expression, denial of participation in the formation of government of their country and the refusal to share equitably wealth generated from the natural resources of the nations. In carrying out the research it is discovered that terrorism in Africa will be curtailed if the yearnings and the aspiration of the people are respected and most of the basic rights guarantee in African Charter and the constitution of individual nations are observed. In conducting the reséarch. the doctrinal method is applied which places reliance on the African Charter, relevant textbooks on African history, terrorism, and human rights. Also, articles, conference papers and seminars touching on the theme of the write up are consulted. The discussion concludes with solutions which the researcher believes if adopted will help African states overcome the prevalent problem of terrorism in the continent, such solution includes; addressing problems of poverty, ‘unemployment. resource control, equitable power sharing in various States of Africa.
