Ten Years of Human Factors Podcasts: A Live Podcast from HFES ASPIRE
Nicholas Roome, Barry Kirby, Katharine E. Sabo, Rydia Weiland, Christopher MiklaszewskiOver the last 10 years, Human Factors Cast (HFC) has been a living experiment for human factors and science communication. Each episode, we translate research papers, topical news, industry events, and listener questions into conversational audio for a mixed audience of students, practitioners, and those with interest from adjacent fields. This live episode recorded at HFES ASPIRE 2026 will discuss a decade of podcast production as a communication channel for human factors: who we reach, how we structure content, and which topics perform well. The session itself is an alternative-format live recording of HFC with the paper’s authors as panelists, recorded in front of the conference audience. By combining retrospective analysis with a live, participatory episode, we treat the podcast not only as a dissemination tool but as a case study in how our field talks about itself, reacts to news, and responds to questions from people in the field.
