Authors not availableSettlement mounds are part of significant spatial patterns within Neolithic, Chalcolithic and Bronze Age landscapes of Southeast Europe and the Middle East. The evaluation of environmental and social factors, which determine tell formations and their discontinuation, are discussed in several contributions. Both societal changes as well as environmental conditions are responsible for the development of tell landscapes in many regions. The creation of tells is clearly linked to a certain social complexity of the involved groups.
