Technostress and Burnout: The New Reality for Healthcare Professionals Amid Digital Change
Vijay Rao Jakkula, Laxmi Pravalika VemulaAbstract
Technostress is the stress that a person experiences due to dependence on technology or anxiety caused by the uncertainty of communication with technology. Digital transformation is reshaping this space in a meaningful way. It is not just about introducing new technology into existing systems, but about rethinking how we understand fitness for work, risk, and well-being. With advances in artificial intelligence (AI), wearable technologies, and data analytics, healthcare systems are gradually moving toward a more responsive, individualized, and continuous model of care. At its core, this shift is about aligning the right person with the right role safely, sustainably, and intelligently. AI agents can now identify patterns that are difficult to detect through traditional methods, helping predict risks before they lead to injury or illness. This marks a clear transition from reacting to problems to anticipating and preventing them. Healthcare professionals experience moderate technostress. However, decision-makers should consider the cognitive and social aspects surrounding digitization to reach a beneficial and sustainable level of usage.
