Teaching Geomatics at the Faculty of Natural Resources Management

Tomislav Sapic, Brigitte Leblon

Instilling a culture of data quality in students is key to their educational and professional development. All instructors, through their course material and leadership, strive to achieve this competency in our students. In this article, geomatics is explored as an example of how this is done. After a brief historical summary of the geomatics activities at the Faculty of Natural Resources Management, the paper presents an overview of methods used at the Faculty for teaching geomatics subjects such as GIS, Lidar, photo-interpretation and remote sensing (optical and SAR, including polarimetric SAR). Several courses are delivered in a self-paced mode. Advantages and disadvantages of this new delivery method are presented.
